Who Is Eligible?
All Nigerian Children Are Eligible
- Newborns and infants — enrolment can begin immediately after birth registration.
- Children aged 1–15 — full NIN enrolment with parent or guardian present.
- Children born abroad to Nigerian parent(s) — eligible as long as Nigerian citizenship is established by at least one Nigerian parent.
- Teenagers turning 16 — if already enrolled as a child, your record must be migrated to an adult NIN. See below.
Documents Required
⚠️ Parent or Guardian Must Be Present
- A biological parent or legal guardian must attend in person — no exceptions.
- If the attendee is a guardian (not a biological parent), bring evidence of guardianship.
- Please bring originals only — our officer scans and returns them.
Documents for the Child
- ✓ Child's original Birth Certificate (NPC-issued or foreign birth certificate)
- ✓ Child's Nigerian passport (if available — not mandatory for under-16)
Documents for the Parent / Guardian
- ✓ Valid NIN slip or NIN PVC card of the parent or guardian
- ✓ Nigerian International Passport (valid or expired)
- ✓ Birth Certificate of the guardian (if not the biological parent)
- ✓ Evidence of relationship or legal guardianship order
Enrolment Process
- Pre-enrol online
Visit penrol.nimc.gov.ng to complete the child's pre-enrolment form. Print the slip with the 2D barcode. If you can't do this online, our team can help on the day.
- Book a family appointment
Call or WhatsApp +447450 444858. You can book multiple children and adults in one session — just let us know how many people are coming.
- Attend with your child and all documents
Parent or guardian must be present throughout. Our officer verifies your documents and the child's identity before beginning biometric capture.
- Biometric capture
Fingerprints and facial photograph are captured for children old enough (typically 5+). For infants and very young children, the process is adapted to what NIMC equipment can record — our officers are experienced with young children.
- Transaction ID slip issued
Your child's Transaction ID slip is issued as confirmation. The NIN itself arrives by SMS within a few working days to the phone number registered during enrolment.
NIN Migration — Turning 16
If your child previously enrolled for a NIN under the age of 16, their record must be migrated to a full adult NIN when they turn 16. This is a separate appointment from standard enrolment.
- ✓ The young person must attend in person (they are now the primary applicant)
- ✓ Bring original NIN slip from child enrolment
- ✓ Nigerian Passport and Birth Certificate
- ✓ Parent may attend but is not required once the child is 16
Please mention "NIN migration" when booking so we allocate the correct time and process for your appointment.
